What 쒻 means

“sswigs” is a parts label, not a Korean gloss. The block combines initial ᄊ (typed as ㅆ), vowel ᅱ (ㅟ), and final cluster ᆪ (ㄳ); surrounding Korean supplies its reading.

Why was Hangul created?

King Sejong made Hangul to ease Korean reading and writing. Earlier systems—Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal—adapted Chinese characters for Korean. Records mention 28 letters in 1443 and an explanatory book in 1446. Hangul became Korea’s official writing system in 1894; after 1910, scholars used it to preserve Korean. A 2009 study proposes that Phags-pa, a Mongol imperial script, influenced Hangul’s vowels, not this syllable’s ancestry.
