What 숟 means
It begins the Korean word for “spoon.” 숟가락 splits into 숟- and 가락. 젓가락 means “chopsticks”; 수저 means a spoon-and-chopsticks set.
A Korean text from the 15th century uses 술 for “spoon” and 져 for “chopsticks.” A Japanese inventory from 752 is linked to spoons from Unified Silla, an early Korean kingdom. Records from 1920, 1939/1946, and 1957 document later spellings; why modern 숟 uses ㄷ remains unclear.
