Hangul syllable Teod

9528/11172

As of 2026, 턷 has no established meaning on its own. It is a Hangul syllable block, romanized approximately as “teot”; in a Korean word, surrounding syllables show its role. On the standard two-set Korean keyboard, x–j–e forms it, though a following vowel may move ㄷ to the next block.

What 턷 means

턷 is a syllable fragment; the surrounding Korean word supplies its role.

It is built from ㅌ ㅓ final ㄷ. In Korean, the final consonant is a 받침, the part placed at the bottom of a Hangul block. Neighboring syllables show what word 턷 belongs to and what that word means.

A message containing only 턷 gives no surrounding word or sentence to decode.

Why does this Hangul block exist?

Hangul combines reusable letters into syllable blocks.

Hangul's creation dates to 1443; in 1446, the book 훈민정음 explained the new script. Its practical aim was to let people write Korean more easily than with Chinese characters.

In Joseon, Hangul became associated with women and commoners. It became Korea's official script in 1894, then a focus of language-preservation and independence efforts in the 20th century.

How do I type 턷?

Use a Korean two-set keyboard and enter ㅌ, then ㅓ, then ㄷ.

On the standard layout, those keys are x–j–e. The Korean input method joins the components as you type. A following vowel can make it move final ㄷ to the next syllable's start.

Fonts may space or proportion the pieces differently. That changes its appearance, not which character it is.

Neutral in Korean writing; without neighboring syllables, it reads like a fragment.

A lone 턷 does not identify a full word; ask for its context.

Why does 턷 change when I keep typing?

That is Korean input-method reflow: if a vowel follows, the keyboard can treat final ㄷ as the next syllable's opening consonant. Enter a space or punctuation to finish 턷 first.

How is 턷 pronounced?

Romanized as teot, it starts with ㅌ, a t with a puff of air, continues with Korean ㅓ (which has no exact English vowel match), and ends with ㄷ closed off like t. Connected speech can shift the sound.
