What 텄 means
Its meaning comes from the phrase built around the verb 트다.
텄다 is a completed past form of 트다. In 입술이 텄다, the lips are chapped; in 싹이 텄다, a sprout has emerged; in 동이 텄다, dawn has broken; and 다 텄다 says the prospects are gone. The phrase tells you which sense of 트다 is meant.
Hangul was designed under King Sejong in 1443 to represent Korean speech more directly than the Chinese characters then used for writing Korean; Hunminjeongeum, a guide explaining the new alphabet, was published in 1446. Hangul syllables are assembled as square blocks. In 텄, ㅌ is the initial consonant, ㅓ the vowel, and ㅆ the final consonant; typefaces can space the parts differently within the block.
Neutral as a written Korean syllable; the surrounding word or phrase sets its tone.
Alone, 텄 does not tell you which sense of 트다 is intended.
