What 튱 means
It is an old Korean spelling used inside different words.
A Korean text from 1574 uses 튱심 as the Korean reading of 忠, a Chinese character meaning loyalty. Another historical glossary writes a tree name, 椿樹, as 튱나모. The same syllable block appears inside different words; the word carries the meaning.
An 18th-century map study records older forms of the place name now written 충주, beginning with 튱 and later 츙. Korean language commentary describes the change from 튱 to modern 충 as palatalization: a consonant's pronunciation changes and the spelling reflects it. These are stages in Korean spelling history, not interchangeable spellings for every modern word.
What if someone sends 튱 alone?
Ask for the surrounding word or source.
By itself, 튱 cannot tell you which of the attested words is intended. If someone sends it alone, treat it as a historical quotation, a fragment, or a possible input mistake until the surrounding text clarifies it.
In historical sources, it reads as an older spelling; outside them, the surrounding word is essential.
Before changing it to 충, check whether the source preserves an older spelling.
