What ﬦ means
It keeps final mem's word-ending role.
Hebrew uses מ inside a word and ם at its end. ﬦ remains a final form: it belongs at a word ending, not at the start or middle.
Why use wide final mem?
It helped Hebrew lines reach an even margin.
Hebrew scribes stretched selected letters so handwritten lines could meet an even margin. In a studied Torah scroll—a handwritten copy of Jewish scripture—the last letter extends horizontally to reach the left edge. Printed Hebrew continued the same line-filling approach. The reading stayed the same: final mem still marks an m at the end of a word.
How do I type wide final mem?
Use a code escape or the documented Hebrew keyboard layout.
Use the JavaScript or JSON escape \uFB26, the HTML character reference ﬦ, or CtrlAltM in the documented Hebrew-QWERTY layout.
A font controls the visible glyph, and compatibility normalization can turn ﬦ into ם. That can erase the distinction in text processing.
Technical and typographic; it points to line layout or a compatibility workflow.
Use ם for ordinary Hebrew spelling; ﬦ can look like a layout stretch.

1Questions people ask
2Can this wide form start a Hebrew word?
No. It remains a final form, so added width does not make it valid at the start of a word.
Does wide final mem survive normalization?
Not always. Compatibility normalization can map it to ordinary ם, so exact-character processing can erase the distinction.
