What ⿱ means
First part above second. In ⿱士口, 士 sits above 口; ⿱ marks their layout.
A 1989 account of Taiwan’s Academia Sinica Chinese Document Processing system, a tool for Chinese text, describes structural operators for characters not yet available as individual computer text symbols. The descriptions assembled existing parts; the account documents use, not ⿱’s invention.
IDS notation appears in electronic dictionaries, teaching tools, and character-reference databases.
It signals character analysis, not a reaction to the conversation.

Questions people ask
1Why does ⿱ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
