What ꧖ means
It writes six as a Javanese numeral. Several Javanese digits resemble letters, including ꧖; the punctuation mark ꧇ is often used with digits to distinguish numbers from letter strings: ꧇꧖꧇.
The timeline is debated. An early study of inscriptions called a specimen dated 841 CE the earliest certain Java example and traced its form to Vengi and Pallava numerals. A 2025 study instead identifies a six in Java’s Dinaya inscription, dated 682 Saka (about 760 CE), with the Srivijaya numeral tradition. By the 14th century, Javanese numeral forms had changed substantially.
