What ⾐ means
It indexes characters by their clothing component.
Old 衣 draws a crossed-front garment. The oldest examples are oracle-bone inscriptions (writing cut into bones used for divination), followed by bronze inscriptions, bamboo-and-silk manuscripts, and formal seal writing. The early Chinese character dictionary Shuowen Jiezi distinguishes upper 衣 from lower 裳; 衣 later broadens to mean clothing.
⾐ is the radical sign; 衣 is the ordinary character. 衤 is its left-side form. Use 衣 in ordinary words; reserve ⾐ for a radical index.

2Questions people ask
1Why does ⾐ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Kangxi Radicals block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
