What ⼔ means
It labels 匕部, the dictionary section for 匕.
The 214-radical system first appeared in the Ming-era dictionary Zihui in 1615; the Kangxi Dictionary adopted it in 1716. It sorts characters by radical, then remaining strokes.
Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary, glosses 匕 as arranging things in order; later dictionaries list spoon and dagger senses. Shang bronze ladles called 匕 were popular, c. 1600–1100 BCE; that dates the utensil, not the index glyph.
Specialist and reference-oriented: it signals dictionary indexing, not everyday writing.

1Questions people ask
1Why does ⼔ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Kangxi Radicals block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
