Khitan small-script character 18B14

21/471

𘬔 is a character in Khitan small script, which writes the Khitan language. Devised around 925, it drew on Chinese characters and served for inscriptions and official texts under the Liao dynasty. Some words were formed from groups of signs for sounds. Khitan writing continued under the Jin dynasty until 1191; the Jurchen people later modeled their scripts partly on it. Its generic Unicode label gives no translation or pronunciation.
