What 𘬪 means
Yes; it marks the masculine form. In Khitan grammar, undotted 𘬪 is feminine; dotted 𘬫 is masculine.
Where does Khitan Small Script come from?
It was created to write the Khitan language. Yelü Diela created the script about 925; its forms adapted Chinese characters, while its sound system drew on Uyghur writing.
The earliest known small-script inscription is the Yelü Yugulin Taishi epitaph, identified in a 2025 study and dated to the Chongxi era.
It appeared under Liao, Qara Khitai, and Jin rule. Jurchen scripts later drew on Khitan models; a 1191 Jin edict ended official use.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘬪 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
