What 𘬨 means
Its reading is unsettled.
One reference proposes “ts” for 18B28; another leaves it unassigned. As of 2026, Khitan Small Script remains only partly deciphered, and sound signs usually cluster into words. A font needs Khitan glyphs, and clusters need layout support.
Tradition credits Yelü Diela and dates creation to 924 or 925 CE. A 2026 study disputes this, arguing sound signs were introduced later to help administer the empire; it identifies 1051 as the earliest securely dated inscription. Chinese characters shaped its signs, while Uyghur writing, used for a Turkic language, influenced its sounds. Most surviving texts are tomb memorials, and a separate Khitan Large Script was also used. Jurchen rulers continued both and modeled their own on them.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘬨 show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
