What 𘬧 means
The mark identifies its masculine grammatical form. The unmarked counterpart 𘬦 also means five, transcribed tau. This numeral stands alone; sound signs usually combine into word groups.
Yelü Diela devised the script to write Khitan. A 2025 study identifies a tomb text for Yelü Yugulin Taishi as the earliest Khitan Small Script inscription.
The script drew on Chinese character forms and was said to be inspired by Uyghur writing, though the scripts show few similarities. It served the Liao, Western Liao and Jin dynasties until a Jin order ended official use in 1191. Jin-era Jurchen scripts were modeled on Khitan writing.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘬧 show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
