Khitan Small Script Character 18B54

85/471

𘭔 is a Khitan small-script character; its Unicode name is an identifier. Yelü Diela devised it around 925 for the Khitan language, combining Chinese forms with Uyghur phonetics. Carved epitaphs preserve it; Liao, Western Liao and Jin used it, and the Jin court ended its official use in 1191; inscriptions were rediscovered in 1922. Jurchen writing adapted Khitan models; the Khitan script remains partly deciphered as of 2026.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘭔 show as a box on some devices?

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
