khitan small script character-18b79

Khitan Small Script Character

122/471

𘭹 is in Khitan small script, one of two scripts for the Khitan language. Its exact role needs context: the script uses word signs and sound clusters. Tradition credits Yelü Diela with creating it around 925, inspired by Uyghur writing. The first securely dated surviving inscription is from 1051; a 2026 study argues it became established later under Liao's Shengzong. It persisted under Qara Khitai and Jin.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘭹 show as a box on some devices?

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
