Khitan Small Script Character 18B80

129/471

𘮀 is a character in Khitan Small Script, used to write the Khitan language; references give two labels, dả and “some.” Tradition credits Yelü Diela with devising it around 925; Chinese characters shaped its forms, and Uyghur writing reportedly shaped its sound system. Junyoung Kang’s 2026 study argues standardization came later and identifies a 1051 tomb inscription as the earliest securely dated text. 12th-century Jurchen scripts drew on Khitan models.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘮀 show as a box on some devices?

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
