When was Khitan Small Script created?
The traditional date is 924/925, though later systematization is also argued.
Tradition credits Yelü Diela. A 2026 study argues the script was systematized later under Liao emperor Shengzong; the earliest securely dated text is a 1051 tomb epitaph.
Khitan Small Script combined Chinese character shapes with sound-based ideas from Uyghur writing. The Liao dynasty (907–1125) used it for state records, letters, poetry, and epitaphs. The Jurchen people continued it under Jin and modeled their own scripts on it.

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
