What 𘭼 means
Not from its Unicode label.
Khitan Small Script has logograms (word signs) and phonograms (sound signs). Phonograms usually form clusters of two to eight characters spelling one word; many sound values remain unknown.
When was the script made, and why?
It was made to write Khitan alongside the separate Khitan Large Script.
The traditional account credits Yelü Diela and dates it to around 925, with reported Uyghur inspiration despite few visual similarities.
A 2026 study argues standardization came later; the earliest securely dated surviving text is a 1051 epitaph. The script remained in use into the Jin period and also appears on mirrors and tallies.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘭼 show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
