What 𘱊 means

It is one sign in a system for writing Khitan.

Created around 925, Small Script offered another way to write Khitan after the Chinese-modeled Large Script proved awkward for a language that forms words by attaching pieces. It mixed word signs with sound signs and was reportedly inspired by Uyghur writing, though few features look alike.

A 2019 study gives 1053 as the earliest known dated text and 1175 as the latest. Small Script appears in Liao, Qara Khitai and Jin contexts, including epitaphs, documents, poetry and translations; later Jurchen scripts adapted Khitan models.
