khojki letter ca

Khojki Letter Ca

15/65

𑈎 is a Khojki consonant letter, transliterated ca; it helps spell a syllable rather than naming a word or reaction. In Khojki, its inherent a vowel can be changed by a vowel sign or removed by a virama. Khojki grew from merchant writing in Sindh into a script for Khoja and Nizari Ismaili religious literature; a blank box is a display problem.

What 𑈎 means

It is a Khojki consonant, not a word on its own.

The scholarly Latin transliteration of Khojki ca is ca; it labels the letter and is not a pronunciation guide in your language. In a Khojki word, a consonant carries an inherent a vowel. A vowel sign changes it; a virama, the mark that cancels the vowel, leaves the consonant without one.

Khojki began in merchant writing used by Lohana and Bhatya communities in Sindh. Some historians connect a possible ancestor with proto-Nagari inscriptions—an early form of Nagari writing—on storage jars from the eighth century; the earliest dated Khojki manuscript reported in Gulshan Khaki's account is from 1737. Khojki later carried Khoja and Nizari Ismaili Satpanth literature, including ginans, devotional hymns and teachings. It belongs to the Landa family of merchant scripts; Khojki and Gurmukhi developed into formal scripts for religious writing.

Why does 𑈎 show as a box?

A box means the display lacks a usable Khojki glyph.

Unicode identifies the letter, but the font still needs a drawing for it. Microsoft's Windows 10 documentation lists Khojki among scripts handled by its universal text-shaping engine, which arranges how script characters are drawn; it also requires a suitable OpenType font. Apps that draw text with their own system may still fail. Switching to a Khojki-capable font can fix the display; a similar-looking character changes the text.

Khojki has a specialist, archival, or devotional register, reflecting its use in historical and religious texts.

A blank box is a display failure; a substitute letter changes the spelling.

Can every app display 𑈎?

No. Even a Unicode-aware app can show a missing glyph if its font lacks Khojki support or its own text renderer cannot handle the script.
