What ᤛ means
It writes the s consonant within a Limbu syllable.
The letter also carries an inherent open-o vowel, /ɔ/; a written vowel sign can change it. A cataloged Limbu alphabet book dated c. 1730 or earlier shows the script was in use by then; that date is evidence, not its origin.
Why does ᤛ look different?
Its visible form changed across historical periods and may vary by font.
The history of the Limbu script includes manuscript, early-modern, and present-day forms. Its name is associated with Sirijanga, a Limbu culture hero. It carried oral mundhum—the Limbu ritual teachings and recitations—into ritual and literature. Modern development began around 1925 after a period of reduced use; early printing sometimes used Devanagari, another script, for technical reasons, and local-script publishing expanded after 1990. Limbu is distantly related to Lepcha and Tibetan as a language; its script belongs to the Brahmic family, a writing-system relationship.

Questions people ask
1Why does ᤛ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Limbu block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
