limited liability sign

Limited Liability Sign

㋏ means LTD, short for “limited liability,” in company notation. Its square fits those letters into one East Asian text cell; NFKC compatibility processing can turn it back into plain LTD.

What ㋏ means

It abbreviates “limited liability.”

The square lets the company abbreviation LTD fill one Chinese, Japanese, or Korean text cell. North Korea’s KPS 9566-97 character-set standard listed it by 1997; that 70-symbol set was registered internationally in 1998. Korean-language references also gloss it as 유한 책임 (“limited liability”) and give (유) as a Korean shorthand.

Formal company notation, not ordinary prose.

As of 2026, South Korean registration guidance bars symbols in company names and requires the company type spelled out.

Why does ㋏ turn into LTD?

It can. NFKC is a text-normalization form that expands compatibility symbols, so ㋏ becomes the plain letters LTD. Display alone does not change it.
