What ◿ means
It marks a geometric triangle; the diagram shows its role.
In triangle notation, surrounding labels show what the shape represents.
How is ◿ related to ⊿?
Unicode cross-references them, but their typesetting roles differ.
In a 2001 standards discussion, ◿ was described as a shape centered in a square character cell. ⊿ is the math sign for a right triangle, set with its bottom on the text line and about the height of a capital letter. Editors kept ◿ separate because their appearance and use differ, and placed it near the other triangle shapes.
