What ൨ means
Choose a Malayalam input method that exposes native digits.
A Malayalam keyboard's digit placement depends on its layout; in an editor with code-point input, enter U+0D68. An emoji picker is not the right route because ൨ is a text character.
What does ൨ mean in Malayalam writing?
It is the Malayalam numeral for two.
Read it as a number for quantity or order. The Malayalam script became distinct around 700 CE, although few inscriptions identifiable as distinctly Malayalam date from before AD 1000. Its numeral tradition is linked to Grantha, an older South Indian script, and has close parallels in Tamil.
In older Malayalam notation, ൰, ൱, and ൲ were separate signs for 10, 100, and 1,000, so ൰൨ represented twelve. A University of Kerala palm-leaf manuscript, possibly from the eighteenth century, preserves Malayalam numeral signs in its page numbering, with later numbers added separately. By the mid-nineteenth century, zero and positional notation were displacing the older system.
Check the Malayalam font first
A font without Malayalam coverage may show ൨ as a box or blank. The stored character remains the same; use an environment with a Malayalam-capable font and check how the number renders before sending or publishing.
Literal and script-specific; it contributes a number value, not a reaction tone.
When it arrives alone, read the number two before inferring a reaction.
Drift: In a 2025 Unicode security proposal, native Malayalam digits were described as not in common use; ordinary modern number writing generally uses positional digits.
