What 𝐡 means
In LaTeX math mode, write \mathbf{h}. This typesets h as mathematical bold without requiring the standalone character.
What does 𝐡 mean in math?
It names a variable; its formula defines its role. In physics and engineering, bold letters can mark vectors—quantities with size and direction.
Earlier Unicode included a small set of specially styled mathematical letters. It expanded them into full alphabets so formulas could preserve style distinctions in plain text.
Why can 𝐡 become plain h?
Compatibility normalization can turn it into h. NFKC and NFKD are text-processing forms that map mathematical bold letters to base Latin letters. That can erase a distinction an equation needs.

1Why does 𝐡 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
