What 𝛌 means
In Word for Windows, type 1D6CC and press AltX.
What does the bold style mean?
It marks lambda as a distinct mathematical variable.
Unicode assigns bold Greek forms for formulas where style carries meaning. This character has no fixed value by itself; the formula defines its role.
Where does lambda come from?
Greek lambda descends from Phoenician lamed.
Greek speakers adapted the Phoenician alphabet, an older consonant-writing system, adding vowel letters and reshaping some signs. The earliest known writing in the Greek alphabet dates to the last half of the 8th century BCE. Lambda kept the /l/ sound; some early Greek variants kept lamed’s orientation, while others reversed it. In Greek alphabetic numerals, λ also represented 30.
A technical math glyph; its bold style matters within the notation.
Bold alone does not tell you that it is a vector; check the formula's definitions.

2Questions people ask
2Does bold lambda always mean a vector?
No. Some textbooks use bold lowercase letters for vectors, but that convention is not universal; follow the formula's definitions.
Why does 𝛌 sometimes look like a box?
The font or app may lack this mathematical Greek glyph. Try a font with broad math-symbol support; a missing shape does not by itself mean the character changed.
