What 𝑁 means
It labels a quantity defined by the formula. The same letter can mean a count, matrix, or other object. In 1591, French mathematician François Viète used capital vowels for unknown values and consonants for known ones in his algebra book. Unicode later encoded mathematical styles separately so plain text could preserve their distinctions.
Mathematical or technical notation, not decorative styling for ordinary words.
