mathematical monospace small n

Mathematical monospace n

640/996

𝚗 is the monospace n used in math: a lowercase Latin n in an equal-width alphabet. In formulas, its style can mark a separate symbol; in words, it can be playful lettering. NFKC text cleanup can reduce it to plain n.

Text symbol

What 𝚗 means

It is the lowercase n of a mathematical, equal-width alphabet.

Monospace means each character takes the same horizontal space. In math, this fixed-width n can mark a distinct symbol; the formula supplies its role.

Math publishers already used these styles. In 1999, STIX (Scientific and Technical Information Exchange) proposed encoding them to preserve their meanings in plain text.

Can text processing turn 𝚗 into n?

Yes. NFKC compatibility normalization maps it to plain Latin n and removes its mathematical style.
