What 𝚛 means
It is a fixed-width r that can mark a distinct mathematical symbol. The formula gives its role; the style separates it from ordinary r.
In 1591, French mathematician François Viète used vowels for unknowns and consonants for known quantities. A 1999 Unicode proposal extended earlier letterlike math symbols into styled alphabets, including monospace, so formulas could preserve the style distinction.
