What 𝓉 means
It is a calligraphic lowercase t for mathematical notation. Here, “script” means a cursive letter style, not a separate writing system. Mathematical writers use letter styles to distinguish symbols; the surrounding formula gives this t its role.
Mathematical notation already used different letter styles to keep symbols distinct. In 1999, mathematicians Murray Sargent III and Barbara Beeton proposed an encoded set of those styles for STIX, a collaboration among scientific and technical publishers.
Why does 𝓉 turn into t?
A compatibility cleanup can turn it into plain t. A Unicode normalization called NFKC maps 𝓉 to ordinary Latin t. If a formula uses the script style to distinguish symbols, that cleanup removes a distinction the writer encoded.
Why does 𝓉 look different across fonts?
Different math fonts can draw this letter in different calligraphic hands. Unicode 18.0 does not prescribe one exact outline for 𝓉; the charts show a sample, while the font supplies the displayed shape. The character stays the same even when its strokes differ.
In mathematical notation, this calligraphic letter marks a distinct symbol style.
Using it as a font shortcut in ordinary prose can interfere with search and accessibility.

1Why does 𝓉 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
