What 𖺅 means
It writes five in Medefaidrin.
Medefaidrin gives a separate sign to each value from zero through nineteen. Above 19, each new place counts another group of twenty.
Where did the numerals come from?
They grew with the Obɛri Ɔkaimɛ church’s own language and script.
The Ibibio Christian movement took shape in 1927 and developed Medefaidrin for church life. Community tradition says leaders received its language and writing through spiritual inspiration during seclusion. The script drew scholarly attention by 1937; a history reproduces samples in use in 1986. Handwritten records preceded Unicode’s 2018 encoding; that date marks computer text, not the numeral’s origin.
