What 𖺆 means
It is six in Medefaidrin’s base-20 numeral system. Its 20 signs cover values zero through nineteen.
Tradition says Bishop Ukpong received the language in 1927 and Jakeld Udofia wrote it down. The script took shape near Calabar, Nigeria, in the 1930s and was finalized by 1936. R. F. G. Adams’s 1947 account includes a numeral table. After the church school closed, members kept using it for worship, hymns, letters, and contracts; teaching resumed in 1986. The base-20 system contrasts with neighboring Ibibio’s base-five count; English also has the older word “score” for twenty.
