What 𖺊 means
It belongs to the Obɛri Ɔkaimɛ church’s script.
The Obɛri Ɔkaimɛ (“Church freely given”) church, an Ibibio Christian community in southeastern Nigeria, developed Medefaidrin around 1927. Members describe it as a “spirit language”; tradition says founder Bishop Ukpong received it by divine inspiration, and secretary Jakeld Udofia wrote it down. It served worship and community life; it also helped shield members from colonial officials, though secrecy brought greater persecution. A 1947 account prints the numeral chart. In 2010, researchers documented prayer and school uses. Its base twenty system differs from neighboring Ibibio’s mainly five-based one. Researchers suggested Bible English may have contributed because “score” means twenty, but could not prove it.
