The Oberi Okaime (“Church freely given”) Christian community in southeastern Nigeria uses Medefaidrin for worship and teaching. Community tradition says the language was revealed to Bishop Ukpong in 1927; the group's secretary, Jakeld Udofia, transcribed it into writing. Its paired capital and small letters reflect English spelling conventions.

The script supported lessons, letters, contracts, and dealings with institutions. It also helped the community identify itself and organize daily life under colonial rule. By the 1930s, the group had opened a school; British authorities closed it within a year.
