What ၅ means
It is the Myanmar-script digit for five.
A Buddhist manuscript in the Smithsonian collection has a 1916 inscription that records a donation date with ၅. Manuscript cataloguers also add Burmese numerals to page labels when they need to clarify the numbering.
Myanmar writing descends through Mon from a South Indian script tradition related to Brahmi, an older writing system. That tradition was adopted to write the Mon language about the eighth century; the first known inscription in Myanmar script dates to the eleventh century. Those are dates for the script, not this individual digit. Myanmar script also has extensions for Shan and Karen languages.
