What 𑑆 means
It changes a consonant's sound. Attached to a letter, it retunes it for sounds the Newa alphabet never spelled, mostly in loanwords.
Newa, the historic script of Nepal Bhasa, also called Nepalakshar or Prachalit, is Brahmi-derived and attested since the tenth century; manuscripts at Kathmandu's Asha Archives show nukta on the letter va.
An orthography guide updated April 2026 calls its present-day use unclear; expect it mainly in older texts and borrowed vocabulary.
