What 𛇍 means
It writes a Jiangyong syllable, not one fixed word.
The Unicode reading list gives its Jiangyong-dialect pronunciation as tsew35. This sound can write 作 (“make/do”) or 左 (“left”); surrounding words tell you which word is meant.
Historically, Jiangyong women used Nüshu for poems, songs, and messages. A cloth-bound “third-day” wedding booklet carried poems to a bride three days after her wedding, often from sworn sisters—women who had pledged sisterhood. Nüshu’s slanted forms grew from Chinese character writing but represented local speech syllabically. A Jiangyong county history points to an unstruck carved coin model from the 1850s; UNESCO identifies a 1933 Hunan survey as the first documentary evidence. By 2025, preservation work also presented Nüshu as cultural heritage.

1Why does 𛇍 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
