What 𛇶 means
It writes one sound; the line selects its sense.
Its romanized Jiangyong reading is hw44. A Nüshu character can represent several words: this one maps to 开 (“open”), 孩 (“child”), and 害 (“harm”).
How did women use Nüshu?
Women used it to write and share local speech.
Historically, Nüshu adapted Chinese character forms to record Jiangyong speech in rural Hunan, where women had limited access to formal Chinese literacy. They wrote songs, autobiographies, and letters; close friends sent brides sanzhaoshu, third-day wedding letters carrying good wishes and advice.
The earliest known Nüshu artifact is a Taiping Heavenly Kingdom bronze coin (1851–1864), inscribed with words calling women one family.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛇶 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
