What 𛇵 means
It writes a Nüshu syllable; the text supplies the word.
Nüshu records local Jiangyong speech with syllabic signs. A sign can represent homophones—words with the same sound—so a sentence identifies the intended word. This glyph’s generic Unicode label does not supply its sound.
How did Jiangyong women use Nüshu?
They wrote to friends, kept life stories and sang its texts.
In Jiangyong, where women had limited access to formal schooling, mothers and friends shared Nüshu through letters, life stories and songs. A sanzhaoshu (“third-day letter”) carried wishes to a bride three days after her wedding; texts were also sung as nüge, women’s songs.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛇵 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Nushu block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
