What 𛉡 means
It marks a sound, not one fixed word.
Unicode lists sai21 as its Jiangyong reading. Nüshu signs mark syllables, spoken parts of words; nearby text identifies the intended word.
Why did women use Nüshu?
They used it to write local speech and share it.
Adapted from Chinese forms, Nüshu let Jiangyong women with little access to formal Chinese literacy write their local speech. Its origins are debated: theories range from ancient roots to the Ming or Qing eras; local legends credit women. A coin from China's Taiping rebellion (1851–1864) is its earliest known artifact; a Hunan survey describes it in the early 1930s. Nineteenth-century works include sanzhaoshu, booklets given to brides three days after marriage. Public attention grew in the 1980s.

1Why does 𛉡 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
