What 𐒢 means
Osmanya numerals let Somali writers record numbers in their script.
Cismaan Yuusuf Keenadiid devised Osmanya in 1920–1922 to write Somali, offering an alternative to writing Somali with the Arabic script.
Early Osmanya appeared in private correspondence. After 1945, the Somali Youth League promoted it as a national choice. In 1961, Somalia adopted Osmanya and Latin for use; Latin became official in 1973, after which Osmanya use declined.
