What 🅪 means

It makes raised MC a single text character. A January 2009 Unicode proposal records MC and MD as already used in Canada. It proposed encoding them as raised letters. In February 2010, a follow-up requested separate plain-text signs, avoiding the need to manually superscript ordinary letters. That formalized an existing abbreviation rather than introducing a new trademark meaning.

Legal shorthand used in Canadian French.

MC is not proof of registration; MD or ® marks registered trademarks.
