What 𑆃 means
It writes the independent vowel a in Sharada. This is the standalone letter for the vowel, rather than a mark attached to a consonant. Sharada recorded Sanskrit, Kashmiri, and other northern South Asian languages in inscriptions and manuscripts.
Sharada developed from Gupta Brahmi through Kutila rather than appearing all at once. The 774–775 Hund inscription has been proposed as the earliest stone record, though its identification as Sharada is disputed. The earliest manuscript evidence comes from the 12th-century Bakhshali mathematical treatise.
Sharada is historically related to the Nagari and Proto-Bengali script families. Later forms in its lineage include Devāśeṣa and Ṭākarī. Its use shifted from learned inscriptions and manuscripts toward later print and narrower specialist settings. Unicode 17.0 describes limited use among Kashmiri Pandits for horoscopes and rituals. Readers of Devanagari may recognize the shared Brahmic heritage, but that does not make Sharada forms interchangeable or immediately readable.
