What 𑆲 means
It writes h with Sharada’s short a built in.
Sharada is an abugida, a writing system where consonants normally carry a short vowel. A vowel sign after 𑆲 changes that vowel; the virama cancels it and can join h to the next consonant.
How did Sharada develop and what was it used for?
Sharada grew from an older script tradition.
It developed from Gupta Brahmi through the Kutila script. Its earliest attestation is disputed: a 2009 Unicode proposal points to Utpala-dynasty coins, while some specialists date a Hund stone inscription to 774–775 CE and others consider its letterforms later.
Sharada appeared on stone and copper inscriptions and in Sanskrit and Kashmiri manuscripts across northern South Asia. Persian-script Kashmiri and Devanagari later displaced it in education and literary writing. Its name is explained either through Kashmir or Śāradā, a name of Sarasvatī, the goddess of knowledge; a 2009 proposal notes that early sources do not use the name Sharada. The script is historically connected with Takri, Landa and Gurmukhi; Takri developed from Sharada. Unicode 17.0.0 describes its limited modern use mainly in Kashmiri Pandit horoscopes and ritual writing.
