What 𝤊 means
It marks grasping contact between body parts.
Here, grasping means a hand pinches or holds a body part or an object such as clothing. “Between” specifies contact in the space between two fingers or other body parts; the marker describes how contact happens, not a whole sign.
SignWriting grew from Valerie Sutton’s DanceWriting, a system for recording movement. DanceWriting began in 1966; in 1974, a connection with sign-language researchers at the University of Copenhagen led Sutton to adapt it for signed languages. The shared symbol system serves signed languages, while each sign’s reading depends on its language and composition.
Why doesn’t 𝤊 explain a whole sign?
It records one contact detail inside a two-dimensional sign.
A SignWriting sign arranges handshape, movement, location, orientation, and contact in a two-dimensional layout. In a complete sign, these parts work together; alone, 𝤊 says only “grasp between,” not the sign’s meaning in spoken words.
A font may show this character without the surrounding SignWriting layout. You are seeing one component on its own; the other symbols and their positions make up the rest of the written sign.
Technical notation for signed-language writing; it reads as one component of a written sign.
Alone, it does not give a complete sign-language word.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𝤊 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
