sora sompeng letter bah

Sora Sompeng Letter Bah

3/35

𑃒 is the Sora Sompeng consonant letter Bah, used to write Sora. Its built-in vowel means it is read as part of a word. In Matharvanam religious traditions, it can also be a spirit-letter associated with Babusum, a deity regarded as a village protector. If sent alone, read it as a Sora character or a display test unless the conversation gives more context.

What 𑃒 means

It is the Sora Sompeng letter Bah, used to write Sora. In this script, consonants have a built-in vowel: it is read with the consonant as part of a word.

An origin account dates Mangei Gomango’s vision for this recognizable script to 18 June 1936. He promoted it as a Sora writing system and cultural project. At the time, Sora was also written in Odia and Telugu scripts, or recorded by missionaries and linguists with the International Phonetic Alphabet, a system for writing speech sounds. Other communities speaking related Munda languages created scripts too: Ol Chiki for Santali and Warang Citi for Ho. These are parallel cultural projects, not ancestors of this letter.

As of 2026, accounts of Matharvanam practice in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh describe Sora Sompeng letters as spirit-letters. In Odisha, one name is sonum sompeng, meaning “script of spirits”; accounts from Andhra Pradesh use nyonan-lipi, meaning “spirit-letters.” This letter Bah is associated with Babusum, a village deity regarded as its protector. Sora Sompeng also appears in print and education, so sacred readings coexist with ordinary writing.

What does 𑃒 mean when someone sends it?

Read it as a Sora letter unless the message says otherwise. A lone 𑃒 identifies the letter; it does not tell you whether the sender is discussing Sora writing or checking font support.

If the conversation mentions Matharvanam or Sora religious practice, do not treat it as decoration. Ask what the sender means: the same character has an everyday role in writing and a sacred interpretation in that tradition.

In Unicode or font discussions, it is a script character; in Sora religious contexts, it can carry sacred significance.

Do not treat it as decorative lettering; the script belongs to a living Sora language and sacred tradition.

Why does 𑃒 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
