What ㌃ means
It represents an are: 100 square metres of land. The are is French in origin. A Japanese account of travel in Europe and America from 1877 records it as 100 square metres. In Japan it is close in area to the older land measure 畝. Ares have also served to measure farmland in continental Europe.
㌃ is the squared Japanese form of アール, written in katakana (a Japanese syllabary). The unit symbol is lowercase Latin a: use a for plain measurement notation and ㌃ when its boxed Japanese style matters. One hectare equals 100 ares; its boxed Japanese form is ㌶.
