What ㎉ means
㎉ means kilocalorie, the unit written kcal.
It occupies one square character cell in East Asian text, including vertical writing. Japanese nutrition tables used Cal. in 1950 and changed to kcal in 1982. Japanese food-label guidance states energy in kcal (as of 2026); the box changes the layout, not the measure.

1Why does ㎉ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
