What ㎑ means
It means kilohertz: one thousand cycles per second.
kHz sits in a square cell to fit one East Asian character position. Unicode calls it a compatibility character, an alternate form kept for this layout.
Many square-unit forms reflect older Korean standards; others draw on Chinese and Japanese standards. Japanese layout guidance favors fullwidth units mainly in vertical text and discourages horizontal use. NFKC turns ㎑ into kHz, removing the square layout; it is a text-conversion rule for compatibility characters. Use kHz in ordinary horizontal text.
Don't confuse it with
1kHz ㎑ vs kHz: same unit; kHz uses ordinary letters, while ㎑ packs them into one square cell.
Questions people ask
1Why does ㎑ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
